India’s star cricketer Rohit Sharma currently holds the record for playing the most T20 International matches

Since making his T20I debut against England at Kingsmead in 2007, Rohit Sharma has already featured in 147 T20 Internationals  - the most by any player in the shortest format of cricket.

Between 2007 and 2022, the current Indian cricket team captain has amassed 3,826 T20I runs in 147 matches at a strike rate of 140.37 while also maintaining a decent average of 31.36. He has smashed four centuries and 29 fifties in his T20I career so far.

Rohit is the fifth cricketer and second Indian to score 2,000 runs in T20I cricket. Virat Kohli, Brendon McCullum, Shoaib Malik and Martin Guptill are the four other cricketers to achieve the incredible feat.

Interestingly, Rohit was part of the Indian side that won the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007.

The Nagpur-born cricketer also played a pivotal role in helping India clinch the inaugural T20I edition of the Asia Cup in Bangladesh in 2016.

Following his impressive run in the T20I format, Rohit was included as an opener in the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Decade.

Pakistan batter Shoaib Malik is second on the list for the most T20 International matches.

The former Pakistan captain played 124 T20 internationals since making his debut against England at County Ground in 2006.

Shoaib Malik has scored 2,435 runs at an average of 31.22 and a strike rate of 125.64. He registered nine fifties to his name in international cricket’s shortest format.

Malik was part of the Pakistan team that won their maiden ICC World T20 title at the iconic Lord’s in 2009.

New Zealand’s Martin Guptill features third on the list. Between 2009 and 2022, Guptill has featured in 122 T20 Internationals so far.

The swashbuckling batter made his T20I debut against arch-rivals Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in 2009. The opening batter has accumulated 3,497 runs at an average of 31.79 and a strike rate of 135.80. He has hit two hundreds and 20 fifties in his illustrious T20I career.

Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah and Mohammad Hafeez of Pakistan complete this top five list.

While Mahmudullah has played 121 T20 Internationals, Mohammad Hafeez has played 119.

Paceman Deepak Chahar claimed the best-ever T20 international bowling figures of six for seven as India clinched a 2-1 series triumph over Bangladesh with a 30-run win on Sunday.

Chahar, a medium-pace bowler, finished the match with a hat-trick to bowl out Bangladesh for 144 in 19.2 overs while chasing 175 for victory in Nagpur.

Chahar became the first Indian bowler to get a T20 hat-trick as he went past Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis, who had figures of 6-8 against Zimbabwe in 2012.

Left-handed opener Mohammad Naim made 81 and put on 98 runs for the third wicket with Mohammad Mithun, who made 27, but the rest of the batting faltered in the chase.

Chahar, who wiped out the tail with a wicket with the last ball of his third over and two at the start of his fourth, was ably supported by fellow paceman Shivam Dube who claimed three wickets.

It was a special effort by the Indian bowlers who found it difficult to grip the ball due to late-evening dew.

"It were the bowlers who won us the game. I know how tough it was in the middle considering the dew factor," stand-in-skipper Rohit Sharma said after the win.

"But this must be one of the best comebacks in this format for India. It was easy for them at one stage, with 70 needed in eight overs. But the boys showed characters, took up the responsibility."

Chahar, who took two early wickets from successive balls as Bangladesh slipped to 12 for two, broke the threatening third-wicket stand after sending back Mithun.

Dube struck with the first ball of the very next over as Mushfiqur Rahim played on for a golden duck to give the medium-pace bowler his maiden T20 scalp.

Dube then got Naim's prized scalp with a perfect yorker that rattled the stumps of the left-hander and was on a hat-trick after getting new batsman Afif Hossain caught and bowled.

Earlier, Indian batsmen KL Rahul, who made 52, and Shreyas Iyer, who scored 62, helped the hosts reach 174 for five after being put in to bat first.

Iyer and Rahul put on a crucial 59-run stand for the third wicket to give the hosts a challenging total.

Rahul raised his fifty in 33 balls as he hit seven fours before falling to paceman Al-Amin Hossain.

Iyer made the most of a reprieve on nought when dropped by Aminul Islam off Shafiul to bring up his maiden T20I fifty.

Iyer took the attack to the opposition with a flurry of sixes including three successive hits over the fence off Afif.

Rohit Sharma insisted that the team will continue to find the right balance for the T20 World Cup in Australia next year.

"Until we get close to the World Cup, we got to find the right balance. There are a few guys missing, but they'll come back. Keeping everything in mind, we have few games in mind before we get into that flight to Australia," said Sharma.

"If we keep performing like we did today, it's going to be a big headache for (regular skipper) Virat (Kohli, who was rested for the series) and the selectors."

The two teams will now play two Tests starting in Indore on November 14. Kolkata will host India's first day-night Test starting November 18.

Hundreds of supporters of Bangladesh's cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan protested on Wednesday after he was banned for two years by the sport's governing body for not declaring attempts to bribe him.

The ban on the 32-year-old superstar was announced Tuesday by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which suspended one year of the punishment after Shakib "accepted three charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code".

Shakib made a public appeal for support after being banned, unleashing a flood of angry anti-ICC social media posts from his fans.

Police said about 700 people took to the streets in Shakib's hometown of Magura, demanding the ICC revoke the ban which came on the eve of Bangladesh's departure for a tour of India.

"The protesters shouted slogans and marched along a highway. They also formed a human chain as part of their action against the ICC decision," said Saiful Islam, police chief in the western town.

Protesters carried placards saying that Shakib was the victim of a "conspiracy". Smaller protests were held in the capital Dhaka, police said.

The Test and T20 captain accepted charges that he had failed to disclose details of approaches made over a tri-nation series between Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in 2018 as well as the 2018 Indian T20 League.

Shakib will be eligible to return from October 29 next year but he is ruled out of the T20 World Cup in Australia which starts October 8.

'Shocking' decision

"Those who have supported me over the years, I hope they, the fans, Bangladesh Cricket Board, the government, the journalists will continue to support me in my bad and good time," Shakib told reporters after the ban was announced.

"I am hopeful I will come back to cricket soon. I will be stronger and will perform my responsibilities with more sincerity," he said.

Shakib, who has played 56 Tests, 206 ODIs and 76 Twenty20 internationals, is Bangladesh's biggest sporting hero and has regularly topped the ICC rankings for all-rounders since 2009.

At this year's World Cup in England, Shakib scored more than 600 runs and picked up 11 wickets. He also became the fastest cricketer to reach 5,000 runs and 250 wickets in one-day internationals.

After the ban, Shakib stepped down from the MCC World Cricket committee, which said it was "sorry" to lose him but supported his resignation, which was "the right decision".

Bangladesh's new Twenty20 captain Mahmudullah said he had full sympathy for Shakib.

"We all are sad for him because we know how important a player he is for the team," Mahmudullah said before leaving for India for the tour.

"Maybe he made a mistake. But he did not commit any crime. We still support Shakib. We will continue to love him the way we used to," he said.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan said Shakib's suspension was "shocking" as he was the team's centrepiece.

"We have no substitute (for Shakib)... I was angry when I first heard about it and asked why he didn't inform me. We planned our India tour keeping Shakib in the team," Nazmul told reporters.

Bangladesh will play two Tests and three T20 internationals in its Indian tour that starts November 3.

Skipper Rohit Sharma smashed 85 in his 100th Twenty20 international to power India to an eight-wicket series-levelling win over Bangladesh on Thursday.

Sharma put on 118 runs with opening partner Shikhar Dhawan as the hosts achieved their target of 154 in only 15.4 overs in Rajkot to make the three-match series 1-1.

The 32-year-old raced to his fifty in just 23 deliveries, reaching the milestone with his third six.

He hammered six fours and six maximums in total, including three successive hits over the fence off spinner Mosaddek Hossain in his 43-ball blitz.

"I knew that Rajkot is a good track, knew (it) will be difficult for bowlers in the second innings," said Sharma, who is leading the side in the absence of the rested Virat Kohli.

"We took advantage of that, had a great powerplay. After that, it was all about going on.

"I never underestimate bowlers. All these years, I've just tried to do my best with the bat in hand. Knew conditions were perfect, so all I wanted to do was stay still and tonk the ball."

He is the only male Indian cricketer to play a century of T20 internationals and just the second worldwide, with Pakistan's Shoaib Malik having played 111.

Sharma finally became leg-spinner Aminul Islam's second victim after being caught at deep mid-wicket.

Dhawan was bowled by Aminul for 31.

Shreyas Iyer, on 24, and KL Rahul, on eight, were at the crease as India won with 26 balls to spare.

Chahal keeps Bangladesh in check

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal set up the victory by taking two key wickets in one over to help restrict Bangladesh to 153 for six after being put in to bat first.

Bangladesh made a flying start with Liton Das and Mohammad Naim, the top scorer with 36, putting on 60 for the opening wicket in 7.1 overs.

Liton benefited from a pair of reprieves, including a stumping chance when a no-ball was called after wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant collected the ball in front of the stumps.

Liton was finally run out by a direct throw from Pant while trying to steal a single after missing a googly from Chahal.

Chahal then struck twice in his third over with the wickets of first-match hero Mushfiqur Rahim, for four, and Soumya Sarkar, for 30, as the tourists slipped to 103 for four.

Bangladesh lost two more wickets, including skipper Mahmudullah Riyad for 30, in the last five overs that resulted in 41 runs.

"Was a very good wicket, but we were 25-30 runs short. Having said that, credit to Rohit and Shikhar, how they started. Momentum went their way," said Mahmudullah.

"We need to assess the conditions when we go to Nagpur. We needed to be a bit more positive."

The final match is on Sunday in Nagpur.

Mahmudullah struck a quick-fire half-century as Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 39 runs to qualify for the final of their T20I tri-series in Chittagong on Wednesday.

The hosts will face Afghanistan in the final on Tuesday in Dhaka, while Zimbabwe will finish their campaign against the same opponents on Friday.

Riding on Mahmudullah's 62 off 41 balls, Bangladesh posted 175-7 ? the side's highest total against Zimbabwe in T20Is ? before pacer Shafiul Islam and debutant leg-spinner Aminul Islam shared five wickets to bowl out Zimbabwe for 136.

Shafiul, playing his first T20 international in nearly two years, claimed 3-36 while teenager Aminul also impressed, taking 2-18.

Mustafizur Rahman also took two wickets in the final over to finish with 2-38 as Bangladesh condemned Zimbabwe to their third consecutive defeat in the tournament, ending their chances of playing in the final.

Bangladesh took the upper hand in the game when Mohammad Saifuddin and Shakib Al Hasan struck in the first two overs before Shafiul reduced Zimbabwe to 8-3.

Zimbabwe soon slumped to 66-7, a position from where they could never recover despite some late blows by Richmond Mutumbami and Kyle Jarvis.

Mutumbami hit 54 off 32 balls, his maiden T20 international fifty, with four fours and three sixes, while Jarvis added 27 off 20 balls, but they could never put Bangladesh under pressure.

Mahmudullah earlier led Bangladesh's batting charge with his fourth T20 international fifty, which featured one four and five sixes.

Sent into bat first, opener Liton Das made 38 off 22 and put on 49 runs with debutant Najmul Hossain to give Bangladesh a positive start.

Neville Madziva took a stunning catch off Chris Mpofu at short third man to end Liton's innings and Bangladesh were soon 65-3.

Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim (32) added 78 for the fourth wicket to set up a possible score of close to 200 runs but Zimbabwe halted Bangladesh's progress with late strikes.

"We started well with the bat but couldn't finish the innings the way we wanted. That's an area we can improve. Bowlers backed it up brilliantly," said Bangladesh skipper Shakib.

Jarvis, who claimed 3-32, removed Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain in consecutive deliveries in the final over to create a chance of a hat-trick.

Mohammad Saifuddin hit six runs off the final two balls to ensure Bangladesh posted a strong total.

Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza lamented his side's batting in the first 10 overs.

"If you lose half your side within 10 overs, you're always behind the game," he said.

Ahead of their all-important clash against India on July 2, Bangladesh have been dealt with a major blow, as all-rounder Mahmudullah has suffered a grade 1 tear in his right calf muscle.

The 33-year-old sustained the injury while batting against Afghanistan on Monday in Southampton. Although he impressed with his 38-ball 27, he was seen in visible pain while running between the wickets.

The injury was picked while the 33-year-old was batting on one run. The green signal, for the rest of the innings, was given when team physio Thihan Chandramohan applied the compression tape around his calf. He was taken to the hospital soon after the innings, and as a result of which, Sabbir Rehman took the field as a replacement. The scans, on the other hand, revealed he had sustained a grade one tear.

"Mahmudullah has sustained a low grade calf injury. We will monitor his progress over the next few days with regards to his availability for the next World Cup match,'' said Chandramohan on Tuesday.

As for the injury, it takes somewhere around seven to ten days to heal the grade 1 tear. And while he may not miss so many games, the India fixture remains under cloud.

Mahmudullah has had a poor injury track, to say the least. Even at the World Cup, he arrived on the back a grade-3 tear on his shoulder, and this is why he hasn’t bowl in the tournament.

Bangladesh take on India on July 2 at Edgbaston before locking horns with Pakistan at Lord’s on July 5.

With the 2019 ICC World Cup fast approaching, Bangladesh's preparations for the event received a hit after Mahmudullah was reported to have suffered a shoulder injury.

An MRI report of the batsman revealed a grade-3 tear on his shoulder, reported a news organisation. Mahmudullah had initially hurt himself a few months ago but aggravated it during the first Test against New Zealand on the recent tour when he dived on the field Twice.

An MRI test was conducted in New Zealand and the Bangladesh Cricket Board physicians had been waiting for the report before determining the healing process of the injury. BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury admitted that they received the report on Monday but refused to provide the details.

However, a BCB source privy to the matter, confirmed that it was a grade-3 Labrum tear, which often requires surgery for complete healing. ''We received the MRI report of Mahmudullah today and it reveals he had a grade-three tear. We have recommended him rest for 15 days and later we will start his rehabilitation program,'' the officials said.

''We will follow conservative treatment process and if that fails to heal him than we might need an operation,'' he said. New Zealand bowler Trent Boult and Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah have been fined for breaching cricket's code of conduct during the second one-day international in Christchurch on Saturday.

Boult was fined 15 percent of his match fee for an "audible obscenity" while Mahmudullah was fined 10 percent for "abuse" of equipment for striking the fence with his bat while leaving the field after his dismissal, the International Cricket Council said Sunday.

Both players had one demerit point added to their disciplinary records of a first offence.

New Zealand won the match by eight wickets to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series with the third and final match to be played in Dunedin on Wednesday.
