Scoring a hundred in Ond Day Internationals is no mean feat, which is why scoring it in record time for your country makes such an achievement even more remarkable.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim holds the record for scoring the fastest ODI century for Bangladesh.

The record fastest for the fastest ODI hundred overall is held by legendary South African AB de Villiers. Rahim’s fastest ODI century for Bangladesh came after 29 more deliveries than de Villiers?fastest ODI ton, but it was a knock that truly lit up the stadium and entertained the spectators.

Rahim, in fact, features twice in Bangladesh’s top list of fastest ODI century for the country. His 77-ball 106 against Pakistan in the first match of the Men in Green’s tour to Bangladesh in 2015 is fourth on the list of fastest ODI century for Bangladesh.

Only all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan with three appearances features more than the wicketkeeper-batter in this list, while batter Litton Das like Rahim has two mentions in the top 10.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s 60-ball 100* against Ireland, March 2023

Wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim smashed the fastest ODI century for Bangladesh against Ireland in March 2023. After being asked to bat first at the toss, Rahim walked into the crease in the 34th over with the score reading 190/4 and then produced a breathtaking knock of 100 not out off 60 balls to help the Tigers to 349/6 - Bangladesh’s highest total in ODIs. He smashed 14 fours and two maximums but, unfortunately for Bangladesh, they couldn’t win the match thanks to rain playing spoilsport.

Shakib Al Hasan’s 64-ball 104 against Zimbabwe, August 2009

In the second ODI of Zimbabwe’s five-match series against Bangladesh in 2009, Shakib Al Hasan hit the second-fastest ODI hundred for his country. Asked to bat first at Queens Sports Club Bulawayo, Shakib Al Hasan took control of the match with a blitzkrieg inning of 104 from 64 balls to help his team to a total of 320/8. The Tigers went on to win the match by 49 runs and Shakib Al Hasan won the Player of the Match courtesy of his century which featured nine fours and four sixes.

Shakib Al Hasan’s 69-ball 105* against Zimbabwe, October 2009

After already tormenting Zimbabwe in their own backyard earlier in the year, Shakib Al Hasan was at it again against the Chevrons in October. However, on this occasion, the all-rounder was smashing Zimbabwe around the ground at home in Mirpur. Chasing a target of 220 to win the second game of a five-match series, Shakib Al Hasan was in a hurry as he powered to another quick ton. He scored an unbeaten 105 off 69 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes as Bangladesh won convincingly with seven wickets and over 20 overs to spare.

India star cricketer Virat Kohli holds the record for the highest individual score in Asia Cup in the 50-over format.

Chasing a steep target of 330, Virat Kohli smashed 183 runs off just 148 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan during an Asia Cup group match at the 2012 edition.

Kohli’s scintillating knock powered India to a commanding six-wicket win in Mirpur, Bangladesh. His match-winning innings was laced with 22 fours and one six.

Earlier, centuries from openers Mohammad Hafeez (105) and Nasir Jamshed (112) helped Pakistan post 329/6 in their allotted 50 overs.

Kohli surpassed the previous record held by former Pakistan batter Younis Khan in the Asia Cup.

Batting at number four, Younis Khan played an impressive 144-run knock off just 122 balls against minnows Hong Kong during an Asia Cup match in Colombo in 2004. His innings included eight fours and three sixes.

Younis Khan’s ton powered Pakistan to 343/5 in their 50 overs. In reply, Hong Kong were bowled out for 165 in 44.1 overs.

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim features third on the list for the highest individual score in the Asia Cup.

During an Asia Cup group match at the 2018 edition, Rahim scored 144 runs off 150 balls against Sri Lanka at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Rahim’s knock was laced with 11 fours and four maximums.

Rahim’s magnificent hundred helped Bangladesh post 261 on the board. In response, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 124.

Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik and Virat Kohli complete the top five list for the highest individual score in 50-over Asia Cup matches.

Shoaib Malik hammered a 127-ball 143 against rivals India during an Asia Cup match in Colombo in 2004. His brilliant ton helped Pakistan post 300/9 in their 50 overs. Chasing a daunting target, India could only manage 241/8 in their allotted 50 overs.

In the 2014 edition of the Asia Cup, Kohli smashed 136 off just 122 balls against hosts Bangladesh to guide India to a six-wicket win in Fatullah. Kohli’s match-winning ton helped India chase down Bangladesh’s 279/9 in 49 overs.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong cricketer Babar Hayat holds the record for the highest individual score in the Asia Cup in the T20I format.

Chasing 181, Babar Hayat hammered a 60-ball 122 against Oman during a qualifying Asia Cup match in Fatullah in 2016. The Hong Kong cricketer is currently the only other batter other than Virat Kohli to score a century in the T20I format of the Asia Cup.

Among Indians, Virat Kohli holds the record for the highest individual score in the Asia Cup (T20I format). The Indian swashbuckling batter scored a 61-ball 122 not out against Afghanistan in Dubai in 2022.

For the unversed, the Asia Cup has been played in the T20I format only once previously in 2016. The 2022 edition will just be the second time that the Asia Cup will be played in the 20-over format.

Bangladesh will be eager to secure their maiden series whitewash over Sri Lanka when the teams reconvene for the third and final ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on Friday, May 28.

The Bangladesh cricket team has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, and are coming off a 103-run victory in the rain-marred second ODI. The victory meant the Tigers moved to the summit of the ICC Cricket World Cup’s Super League.

The Sri Lanka cricket team, meanwhile, faltered yet again as it couldn’t sustain on the sluggish pitch at Dhaka. The Lankan Lions are likely to test their bench strength and field a changed playing XI, given they have already lost the series.

BAN vs SL fantasy team picks for the third ODI

Top tip: Best batsmen

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim’s exploits in the second ODI make him an easy choice as a top batsman for the third BAN vs SL ODI. The 34-year-old has aggregated 209 runs at an average of 104.50 and has been rewarded with 295 fantasy points.

Kusal Perera is favoured as Sri Lanka’s best batsman for the dead rubber on Friday. Despite scoring just 44 runs, the Lankan ODI captain has earned 67 fantasy points and could be a decent pick for fantasy cricket players.

Top tip: Best bowlers

It is a no-brainer why Mustafizur Rahman is the highly-rated bowler for the third BAN vs SL game on Friday. Fantasy cricket owners ought to be aware that ‘Fizz?has been rewarded with 437 fantasy points, and he will be eager to consolidate his tally of six wickets which have come at the cost of 3.33 runs per over.

Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera has scalped four wickets in the ongoing ODI series and is rated as the top Lankan bowler to watch out in the third ODI. The 29-year-old, with 25 wickets in 27 ODI games, has earned 141 fantasy points and should be a safe option to consider in your fantasy cricket team.

Top tip: All-rounder

Isuru Udana is pegged as the top all-rounder for this fixture and is one of the players with the most fantasy points to his name. Udana has registered 39 runs and two wickets in the ongoing series and will need to showcase his all-round skills that can propel Sri Lanka to claim a consolation win.

The Indian T20 League is the undisputed heavyweight of the world when it comes to T20 leagues. Launched in 2008, the lucrative tournament has attracted the who's who of cricket to come and play and been a springboard as well for lesser-known players to catapult themselves to stardom and perhaps even the national team with definitive performance against the cream of the crop.

At the same time, there are those cricketers, who in spite of having more than made their names in international cricket, never saw the light of day as far as the Indian T20 League is concerned, and we run through four such players:

Joe Root

Joe Root has long been a pivotal part of the England squad, and their Test captain is certainly a handy T20 player as well, which he proved during the 2016 T20 World Cup. You would therefore expect him to have been in the thick of the Indian T20 League like his mates Ben Stokes or Jonny Bairstow. However, he has surprisingly been skipped over during the auctions. There was a rumour that Punjab might bring Root onboard to lead in 2020 but that nod went to KL Rahul.

Brian Lara

Brian Lara is, without doubt, one of the greatest batsmen to have graced the sport. When he retired from international cricket in 2007, the Indian T20 League was still a year away from inception. While he did participate in the now-defunct Indian Cricket League in 2008, he wasn’t particularly keen on trying out the Indian T20 League and sat out the first two seasons. It wasn’t until 2011 that Lara finally attempted to crack India’s premier T20 league. Suffice to say that at 41, and being out of action for so long, he did not get a second look during the auctions in Bangalore and has never since attempted to play in the tournament again.

Stuart Broad

While Stuart Broad has an incredible record in Test cricket, having recently entered the elite '500 club', joining the likes of Jimmy Anderson, Anil Kumble and Muttiah Muralitharan, it may not be quite so well known that Broad is also England's highest wicket-taker in T20s. Also, he had captained England in the 2014 World T20 tournament in the West Indies. It's therefore bewildering to think that given his T20 pedigree, he has never played a match in the Indian T20 League. Although Broad was snapped up by Punjab for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, he never played a match for them due to injuries.

Mushfiqur Rahim

Mushfiqur Rahim has on more than one occasion showed his capabilities as a T20 batsman of note for Bangladesh, winning matches singlehandedly for them, and is a bankable wicketkeeper as well. While the likes of Shakib al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman have been part of title-winning efforts in the Indian T20 League, Rahim has always been passed over during the auctions. However, he has adopted a pragmatic attitude about it. “No, I don’t have any regrets. I don’t think that playing the (Indian T20 League) can be bigger than representing my country…if I get an opportunity then, of course, I’ll play. And if I don’t get then honestly, I will never regret it,?Rahim told Cricbuzz in 2019.

The South Africa - Australia series takes the toast this week but in pure fantasy terms, you might be better off punting on Bangladesh batters and some key West Indian players. Nostragamus fantasy managers will have to be smart this week as they make their fantasy player choices. Here we have identified a few choices to help their week.

Mitchell Starc

Country: Australia

Match/Series: South Africa vs Australia

Twice in two games this series, Mitchell Starc quietly made an impact when he had Quinton de Kock, easily South Africa's best batter, cleaned up. Starc has taken just five wickets on this tour so far but has bowled much better than those numbers suggest. The left-arm pacer could be in for a great final bash this week as the last two ODIs take place. A natural wicket-taker, Starc has 177 ODI wickets at a rate of 25.7.

Mushfiqur Rahim

Country: Bangladesh

Match/Series:  Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe

With Shakib Al Hasan absent, Mushfiqur Rahim is Bangladesh's senior batsman and star player. The wicket-keeper batsman has 773 runs, the most by any Bangladesh batsman, in ODIs since 2019 at an average of 48.31. He has two hundreds and seven half-centuries against Zimbabwe, so another big knock could be in the offing.

Liton Das

Country: Bangladesh

Match/Series:  Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe

Liton Das started the series with a spectacular hundred at the top of the order. Given Zimbabwe's ordinary bowling attack, Liton could have another great game over the course of this week. Consistency has been his forte and it is reflected in an ODI average of 48.62 and a strike rate close to 110 in ODIs since 2019.

Evin Lewis

Country: West Indies

Match/Series: Sri Lanka vs West Indies

Shai Hope has hogged most headlines when it comes to West Indies batting in ODIs. But in T20Is, where their big hitters in the middle-order have gained big attention, Evin Lewis has starred at the top. Lewis has a strike rate of 140.09 in T20Is since 2019 as well as the second most runs by a Windies batsman. The southpaw's strike rate as much as his tendency for big knocks will make him a key fantasy player this week.

Kieron Pollard

Country: West Indies

Match/Series: Sri Lanka vs West Indies

Skipper Kieron Pollard ended the ODI series against Sri Lanka with a calculated 49 from the no.4 position but it wasn't enough to give the visitors a win. Pollard's T20 skills are even more accomplished and the all-rounder is West Indies' highest run-scorer in T20Is since 2019 with 301 runs at a strike rate of close to 140. Pollard has also chipped in with the ball and will be keenly watched this series.

The Indian T20 League auction is set to get underway on Thursday and franchises are expected to have proper plans in place to get valuable buys under the belt. Some of them will be on the look out for wicket-keepers and the likes of Alex Carey and Shai Hope are sure to generate a stirring interest after their recent displays.

Here we look at five wicket-keeper batsmen who could be on the radar of franchises.

Shai Hope

The West Indies opener is one of the most consistent batsmen in limited-overs cricket these days. While not considered a T20 player, Hope has the flair and substance to put up formidable partnerships at the top of the order and also doubles up as a good wicket-keeping option. Quite a few franchises have firepower at the top, yet no stability and it is here that someone like Hope could be a good pick.

Franchises that could benefit from picking him: Hyderabad, Punjab, Kolkata

Glenn Phillips

The Kiwi wicket-keeper batsman became a name in the Super Smash in 2016/17 when he made 369 runs, including a 57-ball 116, in the season and topped the run charts. Phillips was a key player in 2018 in the Caribbean Premier League for Jamaica Tallahwahs, making 457 runs in 11 innings and finishing as the second highest run-getter. Phillips has an in-your-face attribute which could work well for most franchises.

Franchises that could benefit from picking him: Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai

Alex Carey

The Australian wicket-keeper batsman is a versatile T20 batsman and can switch between attack and defense as the situation demands. He has played six T20Is for Australia this year but hasn't had to bat even once. That said, his ODI exploits were so impressive that Carey could be a great pick in the auction. In the World Cup, he made 375 runs in 10 matches at 62.5 while scoring at 104.16. Later in the T20 Blast, Carey slammed 264 runs in 10 games for the Sussex Sharks, scoring at 152.6. He could be a very handy finisher for franchises and is a terrific keeper behind the stumps.

Franchises that could benefit from picking him: Rajasthan, Punjab, Hyderabad

Mushfiqur Rahim

The Bangladesh middle-order batsman is a rather underrated T20 player. In 178 matches in the format, Rahim has 3617 runs at an average of 27.19 and strikes at a rate of 128. He has further effected 89 catches and 43 stumpings in the format. Capable of playing the sheet anchor role, Rahim has been often neglected in the auction but this time comes off the back of a match-winning 96* for Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League. He could grab a few eyeballs this auction and be an experienced pick for many franchises.

Franchises that could benefit from picking him: Hyderabad, Delhi

Kedar Devdhar

A domestic wicket-keeper batsman who plays for Baroda, Kedar Devdhar is a rather understated player and could be in for a decent gig at the auction this time around. In 2018, he made a maiden hundred in the format for Baroda against Gujarat. In the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament, Devdhar made 356 runs in 10 matches averaging close to 40 and scoring three half-centuries. The wicket-keeper batsman is a good option for a lot of teams this auction.
